Francois Dominique was born on September 1, 1946 in Milot, near Cap Haitien. He began to paint in 1967 with Philome Obin but has since developed a style which is different from the standard Cap Haitien aesthetic, setting him apart from contemporaries. The present painting is more of a typical style, so it may be an earlier work by the artist.

Emmanuel Jolicoeur was born on Christmas day in 1928 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and is the older brother of artist Wilson Jolicoeur. His work can be found in the collection of the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, IA. He was a member of the school Foyer des Arts Plastiques, created by a group of artists who wanted to address and remedy issues plaguing Haitian painters. Jolicouer was known to collaborate with Rene Exume and David Rouzier. In 1967, he moved to the United States, where he has resided since. His paintings have been sold at major auction houses including Sotheby's, and is represented by a number of galleries. He was included in Eva Pataki's book "Haitian Painting...
