About the Item
Wonderful and outstanding example by one of England's known and much-loved 18th and 19th-century painters. Morland was an English painter who became one of the most popular artists of his time. His work is held in the most important collection of antique art in the UK and also in many international collections.
Morland often painted everyday people and this is one such subject, a simple portrait scene of a young boy feeding his dog and donkey possibly after a hard day's work. The skill of Morland is obvious in the way he's painted the trees, sky, and figures, and cows. The piece has character and is full of life.
The painting has been framed in a 'Morland' frame which might be the original to the painting. This was a design that George Morland designed for his paintings and is very much still used today.
This piece is almost identical to a painting by Morland at Rufford Hall, a National Trust house in the UK
