George Smith was a genre painter from the Victorian period. He was a pupil at the Royal Academy Schools and of Charles West Cope. He exhibited at the Royal Academy (1848-87), the British Institution, the Society of British Artists, the New Watercolour Society and elsewhere. He painted domestic scenes, often of children, in the manner of Webster and Frederick Daniel Hardy. Examples of his work are in the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Nottingham and Rochdale Art Galleries.
