Giuseppe Bonito (Castellammare di Stabia, Italy, 1707 - Naples, Italy, 1789) Title: The Painter's Studio or Allegory of Painting Medium: Oil on canvas Dimensions: without frame 40.5 x 64 cm - with frame 58 x 80.5 cm Antique shaped and gilded wooden frame and mustard-coloured lacquered parts Expertise by Giancarlo Sestieri, art historian In a crowded atelier, the young painter intent on portraying a gentleman on an oval canvas stands out for her beauty and refinement. The vividly rendered profile of the woman gives us an exquisite image of the protagonist, adorned with precious clothes and pearl jewellery. The work has been attributed by critics to Giuseppe Bonito, a painter active in the Neapolitan scene in the 18th century.
