Portraits of a man and Woman Circa 1850-1860 Original Oil on Paper Early American portraits in the style of and possibly by Henry Bryan Hall (English/American, 1808-1861) Later in his career Henry moved to New York and painted portraits of Notables. H.H. Hall written in pencil on wood panel on verso. Painted in oil on paper. I period wood gilt frames. Frames, 19"H x 14"W x 2"D Early Life and Career: Born in London, he was a successful engraver and portrait painter, working on various publications and for notable figures like Henry Thomas Ryall. Move to the United States: In 1850, he moved to New York City and founded the firm of H. B. Hall and Sons, which focused on engraving and publishing portraits of American figures. Legacy: His work contributed to the documentation of early American history and culture.

Image size: 14"H x 24"W x .75"D Hudson River School was an informal association was America's first so-called school of painting and the dominant landscape style until the Civil War. The name derives from a group of 19th-century landscape painters working in New York state.
