- Milady BeautifulBy Edward EgglestonLocated in Minneapolis, MNThis is an enchanting oil on canvas painting by artist and illustrator Edward Eggleston. A beguiling Jazz Age fantasy image, this portrait features a rosy cheeked flapper girl draped in a floral piano shawl. Seated in an arched window, she takes in the moonlit sky. A skillfully rendered piece, Eggleston employed heavy impasto in his background work on the canvas to truly capture the textures and actual feel of an exotic locale stucco wall. This piece was published as calendar art for the Gerlach Barklow Co. under the title "Milady Beautiful". A vintage calendar print...Category

- McCalls Magazine CoverBy Neysa McMeinLocated in Fort Washington, PAJune 1925 McCalls magazine 'To the Girls of St. Agnes Seminary' Neysa Moran McMein – later Mrs. John Baragwanath – wanted, as a girl in Quincy, Illinois, to be a musician. Although she changed her mind and attended the Art Institute of Chicago, she paid her way through school by writing music and playing piano in a ten-cent store. During World War I, she went to France under the auspices of the YMCA, and entertained the troops with her singing and piano accompaniment to showings of Winsor McCay’s animated film “Gertie the Dinosaur”. She painted her first McCall’s magazine cover in 1923, and for many years made pastel portraits of beautiful or notable young women for McCall’s monthly issues, as well as occasional covers for the Woman’s Home Companion, McClure’s, Photoplay, and The Saturday Evening Post. She also regularly contributed her drawings to the annual New York Times’ Hundred Neediest Cases. McMein was equally noted as a hostess and friend of such notables as Alexander Woollcott, Irving Berlin, Marc Connolly, Ben Lillie, Irene Castle...Category

Price Upon Request - A Chinese Company playing DroughtsLocated in Amsterdam, NLERWIN BINDEWALD (1897-1950) Two men playing draughts, a girl with the red book standing behind them Signed and dated E. Bindewald d.j., 27 Oil on canvas, 140.5 x 90.5 cm In black and gilt gesso frame. Note: Bindewald was born in Charlottenburg. He moved to Berlin in 1914 where he studied till 1924 at the Berliner Kunst Akademie. Bindewald travelled in Europe, but mainly stayed in Germany and certainly never was in China. This painting was made in Europe, presumably in the China Town of Berlin. Bindewald received several commisions in Germany from factory owners who wanted their factories painted inside, usually with workers, as well as outside. In the present painting the sitter on the right seems to be a man with a Manchurian background, wearing the brown coat reserved for the highest aristocracy in China. In China the black sleeve-ends completely cover the hands, indicating that the high aristocracy does not have to do any manuel labour. This man clearly is not a factory worker but he possibly is the (co)- owner of the factory in the background and as such might need his hands to do at least some writing. The man on the left in the modern Western suit...Category
