About the Item
Hock Tee Tan was born in Malaysia and studied Fine Art at Nanyang Academy of Fine Art in Singapore.
He came to London in 1976 and has been working as a Fine Artist ever since.
He uses oil pastels, chinese ink and gold and silver leaf for his artworks. He draws from live models and captures not only their shape in a few well placed strokes, but also demonstrates an emotionality within his portrays, mostly of women.
His work is highly skilled, but also beautifully elegant - he frames everything himself and is a perfectionist in presentation.
He is inspired foremost by Modigliani and is constantly seeking to push the boundaries of contemporary figurative painting.
