Artist Comments
Artist Hyoungseok Kim paints human figures crossing the street with pointillism. He emphasizes nature's material and scientific features by expressing the flow of dots or particles. Hyoungseok shares an excerpt from John Updike’s Cosmic Gall as inspiration for his Ghost in the City series:Neutrinos, they are very small. They have no charge and have no mass. And do not interact at all. The earth is just a silly ball To them, through which they simply pass,Like dustmaids down a drafty hall Or photons through a sheet of glass.
About the Artist
Artist Hyoungseok Kim produces contemporary figurative work using pointillism as his preferred technique. “According to the theory of modern physics, all communications and connections can be dealt with not only in terms of spiritual or psychological dimensions but rather in physical reality,†explains Hyoungseok. He enforces pointillist methods to emphasize the material aspect of his colorful compositions, representing the energetic behavior through a flow of vibrant dots and particles. His art gravitates toward representing people captured in everyday occurrences. Fully aware of his artistic calling, Hyoungseok pursued a BFA and MFA degree in art. With the full support of his family, Hyoungseok established a studio, doubling as a small wood workshop, at their home in Dacula, Georgia. He uses reference photos to recreate and transform beautiful renditions of the ordinary and mundane. Aside from his artistic endeavor, he enjoys woodworking and crafting bespoke audio systems. Music always plays from his personally handcrafted speakers to accompany him as he paints.
