Italian painting of Alphonsus Liguori in French Neo-Gothic Frame Italian and French, Late 18th and 19th Century Frame: Height 61cm, width 39cm, depth 6cm Panel: Height 28cm, width 22cm, depth 0.5cm This beautiful devotional oil painting depicts the saint, writer, and theologian Alphonsus Liguori. Liguori is depicted in his conventional manner: seated at his desk at work on a book and accompanied by a picture of the Virgin and Child and a crucifix. The panel features a gold background in the Gothic style. The panel, which is Italian, is contained within a superb French late-nineteenth century frame. The frame is crafted from gilt metal and is delicately pierced and finished with enamel. The style of the frame conforms with the style of the picture it contains.
