Still I Rise (1)* is an original acrylic painting by Nigerian artist Ifeoluwa Alade, created in 2024 as part of his solo exhibition *The Sprout of Hope* at Abend Gallery. Executed in Alade’s signature Araism technique—an intricate style of interwoven brushstrokes that originated in Nigeria—the work exemplifies the artist’s powerful visual language rooted in spiritual and natural symbolism.
This figurative portrait, rendered in earthy, olive tones, depicts a woman with her face lifted in quiet strength. Her gaze reaches upward, lips slightly parted in an expression of peace and defiance. Her hair, composed of dried leaf-like forms, cradles a vivid constellation of butterflies, flowers, and trailing vines, evoking the regenerative beauty of nature.
