About the Item
India Sachi is a contemporary, female painter and photographer who's mythologically inspired works explore concepts of power, vulnerability, and folklore. With work evocative of Rauschenberg, Sachi layers paint, photographs and fabrics to create abstracted, surrealist paintings of women and girls in defiant moments of rest and resilience. Her work includes imagery of snakes, flowers, and coyotes against flora motifs and sections of upcycled cloth. Inspired by fairy tales and biblical allegories, Sachi uses the greens, black, and yellows of her palette to recontextualize these symbols and stories with a contemporary political perspective.

Artist Bio
India Sachi (b. 2000, Ny, NY) graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2022 with the Florence Leif Award. Sachi has since held an active studio practice in the Hudson Valley and New York City.

India Sachi works between painting and photography, exploring the intersections of visuality and the body. Interweaving personal and collective memory, Sachi constructs fabulative narratives, looking towards mythology, beauty, the natural world, and history.
