Iqi Qoror
A Figure In A Flame - Original Figurative Surrealist Portrait Painting

2024

About the Item

Iqi Qoror's surreal figurative paintings are arresting in their earthy palettes offset by pops of fluorescent textile embroidery. His artworks revolve around questions of trust, interspersed with fragments of modernity set against his own social experience. Qoror's blend of portraiture, pop-textiles, and surrealistic imagery invokes curiosity, confusion, and a playfully honest connection with our contemporary world. Each artwork represents a point of self-reflection: "We live in a catastrophic world...I express my response through my works and I'm constructing a question of our madness." Iqi Qoror's painting, "A Figure in a Frame," is a bold and thought-provoking work of contemporary art that seamlessly combines traditional portraiture with surrealist and conceptual elements. Created with acrylic and wool on canvas, the composition presents a seated figure exuding confidence and mystery, framed within an opulent gilded frame that becomes a central part of the artwork itself. The figure, dressed in an eclectic and vibrant patterned jacket with tones of red, white, and blue, paired with sleek navy trousers and leather loafers, occupies a lavish armchair. The figure's face is obscured by a striking, three-dimensional wool pattern in vibrant, intertwining colors, creating an abstract and textured mask-like effect. This deliberate concealment invites questions about identity, individuality, and the boundaries of perception. The gilded frame surrounding the scene, with its ornate details and baroque aesthetic, further enhances the painting’s narrative by transforming the subject into a living artwork. Red yarn strings are woven across the frame, adding layers of visual intrigue and suggesting connections, constraints, or the passage of time. The composition’s palette balances the warmth of gold and red tones with the cool elegance of blue and neutral hues, grounding the visual energy of the piece. The background is a mix of muted grays, emphasizing the contrast between the figure's bold attire and the intricate frame. "A Figure in a Frame" invites viewers to explore themes of identity, power, and the interplay between art and life. Qoror’s innovative use of mixed media, particularly the integration of wool, creates a tactile depth that blurs the line between painting and sculpture. This captivating piece is a testament to Qoror’s ability to reimagine portraiture in contemporary art. This original mixed-media painting is 47 inches tall and 39 inches wide. It is created with acrylic paint and wool embroidery. This painting is signed and dated by the artist on the front lower right corner. Free local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping are available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included with this unique work. A native of Indonesia, Iqi Qoror started his career as a professional Visual Artist with a Master’s Degree in Fine Art. Qoror's combination of different media merges not only different art practices such as painting and embroidery but past and present as well. The combination of modern expressionistic style of portraits without faces with pops of color renders his artworks unforgettably visceral. Qoror constantly challenges himself to be more experimental and versatile in his art practice, from installation to mixed media painting. Through this innovation-fueled journey, Qoror has established himself as one of the fastest rising stars of the Indonesian art scene. He has been labeled an emerging artist to watch who knows how to move distinctly between representational, figurative, and surrealist imagery. His artworks have been exhibited in international hot spots such as Singapore, Hong Kong, New York, and Los Angeles and have been collected worldwide. CORN DANCE
By Starsky Brines
Located in New Orleans, LA
STARSKY BRINE’s paintings and drawings captivate audiences with their distinctive style and a recurring theme, the search for the nature of humanity. In his bold works, the artist focuses on characters that are built from a combination of anthropomorphic and zoomorphic features, as well as the appropriation of elements from comics and toys from his childhood. On the one hand, these characters distort reality to venture into an environment of subcultures and urbanism created by the spontaneous intuition of his strokes and the appropriation of the contemporary iconography. On the other hand, they move within the realm of fantasy. In particular, the animals paired with their human characters evoke associations with fairy tales or comics. They are reminiscent of the world of theatre, in which fantasy and poetry but also comedy often serve as catalysts for the creation of critical meaning. With his works, Brines often questions the interplay of good and evil against the background of the worldwide socio-political climate. Yet Brines does not interpret his themes as ‘black and white.’ They are complex and nonlinear, with charming disruptions, quite serious and yet full of humor. Brines is personally influenced by his mother and art historically influenced by Latin American figurative art, the German Neoexpressionism, the Italian Transavantgarde, and the COBRA group. His works oscillate between figuration and abstraction. Brines holds a degree in Fine Art from the Instituto Universitario de Estudios Superiores de Artes Plásticas Armando Reverón...
