A serene figurative composition dated 1973 and painted in oil onto board by the established Swedish artist Ivar Morsing (1919-2009), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Kalmar Museum, and Jönköping Museum.
Depicted in this oil is a coastal scene with figures resting on a grassy hillside. The brushwork is loose and expressive, giving the piece a dreamlike, almost fleeting quality—as though it depicts a memory or a hazy summer afternoon.
In the foreground, four figures are painted in soft, warm tones of peach, cream, and ochre, their forms blending gently into the lush greens of the grass. Their postures suggest ease and leisure—some reclining, others seated upright—absorbing the warmth of the sun. The figures are not highly detailed but rather suggested through gestural strokes, allowing the viewer to feel their presence without being distracted by specifics.
Behind them, the landscape rolls into dark green hills and trees, leading the eye toward a stretch of calm blue sea and pale sky at the horizon. The colour palette balances cool greens and blues with warm highlights, evoking a harmonious, restful mood.
This oil on board is housed in a gilt and black frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some scuffs and losses.
