Joseph and Potiphar
88x72 cm oil on canvas.
The story tells of Joseph's duties in Egypt. Sold as a slave to Putiphar, chief of the king of Egypt's guard, Joseph saw himself blessed by God like his fathers before him and quickly rose in the domestic hierarchy, but aroused the desire of his master's wife. After trying to seduce him, she defamed him by accusing him of wanting to rape her and he was put in prison.
The painting was created by an important artist from Jacques Louis David's circle. The clothes carried out with great skill and the pathos with which the scene is created forces us to think that the painting was created by an important French painter who has yet to be traced.
