About the Item
James Fisher's gallery-wrapped oil on linen painting, "Beyond Ice and Night and Fear" looks like a multimedia collage, but it was created entirely with paint. The salmon-pink sky is scored with a knife blade. The bough of the tree in the center of this detail is scumbled with a Vandyke brown over a metallic undercoat. He made this metallic paint himself using bronzing powders and damar varnish. The flower motifs, while crisply painted and designed to define the perimeters of the figure with clarity, are nevertheless delicate and translucent. Signed and dated 2008 verso.
