About the Item
"Spring in February" (2015), is a masterful realist bust portrait of a woman wearing an intricate flower crown, standing confidently, eyes locked with the viewer. This piece is framed at 18 x 13.5" and is ready to hang.
Bio:
Jen focused seriously on ballet and modern dance throughout her childhood and adult life. She has a BA in Performance Art from the University of MD. Starling discovered painting later in life, but no stranger to discipline, she has dedicated herself to a demanding studio practice, showing her work, and teaching at the Art Student League of Denver, and ReCreative Denver. In addition, she has numerous online courses available. Her work is collected by private collectors in the US and Europe, and resides in the city of Loveland Colorado’s public art collection.
Artist Statement
My work makes a personal statement that is an amalgamation of my experiences, and a desire for deep connection with others, the natural world, and myself. It speaks to the search for meaning, peace, and spiritual connection that is inherently human. I aim to show a complexity of emotion in my subjects, including vulnerability. When people witness vulnerability in others, compassion ensues, and allows them to feel connected regardless of their differences. When viewing my work, I wish for there to be an exchange that validates the viewers humanity, and ignites self awareness. It is from this place of vulnerability that growth and healing are possible.
