About
North Carolina based Jessica Singerman was born in Bangor, Maine in 1980, but lived alternatively in France and the United States during her early life. She now lives and works in Winston-Salem as an abstract landscape painter, creating artworks that are joyous celebrations of nature. Because Singerman frequently moved around the country and the world as a child, nature and time spent outdoors served as her anchor to her inner self. As a result, she cultivated a deep love of nature that is revealed in her work, which pulses with vibrant color and depth. She notes, “it’s through making things and being in the outdoors that I am able to connect to the world and to find my place in it. In the outdoors, we are reminded of how small we are in the world. We experience the vastness of the universe and at the same time, the interconnectedness of it all. Singerman explores her personal experiences in nature through the formal elements of color, shape, line and composition.
Singerman earned her BA magna cum laude with Highest Honors from the College of William & Mary, Virginia, and her MFA from the University of Delaware. Her watercolors are the subject of a book published in 2017, “Little Watercolor Squares,” and her award-winning paintings and drawings are exhibited and collected nationally and internationally, including at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA).
