Old Friends 2022 Acrylic, Color pencil, on Washi (Japanese handmade paper) over wood panel. Brooklyn-based Japanese artist Masaya Nakayama creates work by wrapping wooden panels with Washi (Japanese handmade paper) followed by “drawing” with a special painter's tape. After covering the panels with a mix of acrylic, colored pencil, and gold leaf, Nakayama pulls up the tape to reveal his motif. The artist’s current body of work details his life in the USA as an immigrant on the path to citizenship.
