About the Item
"Ajna" by Loren Abbate
Original mixed media painting on panel using acrylic, found image collage, holographic iridescent metal foiling & silkscreen, framed in a custom black wood float frame. The artist often references mythic and sacred figures and ancient wisdom in her work, as well as imagined beings. She experiments with multiple mediums in her work as a painter, printmaker, collage and sculpture artist. This piece pays homage to the chakra system, highlighting the "Ajna," or third eye chakra.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Loren Abbate is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts, New York and attended Studio Art Centers International, Florence, Italy where she studied illustration and painting. She has taught visual art in secondary schools and at the university level. She earned an extended printmaking residency at the Art Center South Florida and then at Newark Printshop, NJ. She was also an artist-in-residence at Art Print International in Spain and has been awarded multiple art program scholarships, including Anderson Ranch Art Center and the University of Colorado Printmaking Department. Abbate's work has been exhibited in commercial galleries, in institutions and at fairs including Christie's NY, Dairy Art Center & Art Basel Miami Beach.
