Luis Alexander Rodríguez (Ie-Xiua)
Contemporary Oil Painting On Canvas. "Bird Man"

2022

About the Item

Oil painting of a fantastic bird on canvas in green, blue and yellow tones. This small-sized painting has textures and was made with professional-quality Rembrandt and Winsor & Newton colors using successive layers of oil and transparencies. It represents the mysterious fusion of a man and a bird, which happens at the very moment when their eyes and thoughts cross in the forest. This painting is part of a long series where I explore the relationships between us, humans, and other animals. The work is shipped rolled and carefully packed in a tube, protected with a professional-quality gloss varnish, and includes a certificate of authenticity. Signed on the front and back. _________________ Luis-Xiua is a Colombian artist who has gained recognition for his innovative technique and deep respect for nature, reflected in each of his works. With a background in contemporary art from the Universidad Javeriana and formal training in painting from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Luis-Xiua has developed a distinctive style that combines the abstract and the figurative. His work is inspired by the essence of South America and the principles of Constructive Universalism, offering a unique and evocative vision of the natural and fantastical world. Animals are a constant presence in Luis-Xiua’s art, serving as a reminder of our intrinsic connection with nature. His works often feature human figures, animals, and imaginary beings intertwined in dreamlike and surreal landscapes, creating an atmosphere of mystery and magic. The fusion of abstract and figurative elements in his work invites the viewer to explore multiple interpretations and immerse themselves in fantastical worlds where colors, textures, and creatures coexist harmoniously. Luis-Xiua’s artistic process is characterized by a deliberately slow, layer-by-layer creation, resisting the relentless pace of the contemporary world. This patient and careful methodology allows him to create works of depth and visual richness, offering an aesthetic experience that invites contemplation and reflection, bringing a fresh and evocative perspective to the world of contemporary art.

Signed lower left Elizabeth Higgins (Canadian, b. 1960) Elizabeth Higgins describes herself as an abstract figurative and landscape painter. Everything around her serves as a potential subject, an inspiration to begin a painting. Fidelity to the landscape, the figure, or the still life is relative, as she isn’t interested in literal depictions; instead, it’s the abstract relationships of these shapes and colors, the abstract pictorial design that drives her work. Higgins’ paintings are rooted in the tradition stemming from Courbet, Derain, Bonnard, Matisse, Morandi, German Expressionism, and the Canadian Group of Seven (also known as the Algonquin School of landscape painters, 1920–1933). She is influenced by the work of her artist-teachers Paul Resika—himself a student of Hans Hofmann—and Robert De Niro, Sr. (1922-1993), as well as the paintings of contemporary artist Peter Doig. Her artistic evolution stretches across this continuum. It is the “in-between”, the hovering between representation and abstraction, that interests her, not the labeling effect of details; instead, she aims directly at the spirit of the painting—of making something come to life. John Goodrich wrote in her catalog essay, “Elizabeth Higgins’ direct brushwork and simplified forms suggest an energy, but crucially, reveal a painter who knows the power of color…” Elizabeth Higgins was born in Toronto, Canada, in 1960. As a Helena...
