Ma pursued advanced studies in the Mural Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing (CAFA). She belongs to Chinese Neo-Expressionnism movement. The style and appearance of Ma's current works reveals that her intention is to uphold the purity of motivation by abolishing theme. From paintings of Ma Wei-Hong, we can see the predicament of our era. By employing the narrative form like a personal diary and the seemingly random scribble, she conveys the anxiety, restless, decadence, fear and ethical entanglement of our society and our personal existence to viewers in a way like a code word.
