About the Item
Remembrance #6 is a unique painting by contemporary artist Maho Maeda. This painting is made with acrylic, coloured pencil, ink and antique textile on cotton canvas, dimensions are 50 × 40 cm (19.7 × 15.7 in).
The artwork is signed, sold unframed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
This piece is a recent entry in the artist's Remembrance series. The artist is particularly interested in the memory of both living things and inanimate objects. She hopes to reveal stories through her artwork, capture them in time, and rescue them from obscurity. She picked a kimono, a piece of Japanese culture, for this series. She buys used kimonos, cuts them up, and adds the pieces to the paint and canvas.
The paintings are complemented by abstract patterns and shapes that resemble natural objects like leaves, bird wings, and buds. Maho Maeda's creations, however, are not depictions or imitations of nature; rather, they are individual interpretations of the sounds of nature that have been given a visual form and a tangible medium.

Maho Maeda is a Japanese artist who lives and works in Mexico City, Mexico. Her research, which centres on nature and its sounds, takes shape in harmonious pictorial compositions from which emerge both strength and poetry. In her works, the sound traces are transformed into lines that move, change direction, transform and break. Abstract shapes and patterns complement the paintings, evoking natural elements such as leaves, bird wings and buds. The artist combines several materials in her work, such as acrylic paint, oil, ink and pencil, and uses a variety of media, such as canvas, wood and fabric. “Living beings, non-living things, everything has its own ‘history’ and eventually disappears. [...] The histories of each of them is immeasurable. I close my eyes, and then I ponder and evoke them.”

Artist Biography:
My artwork is engaged to nature and its recurrent patterns and rhythms. I use them as a base in order to create my compositions. I´m attracted to repetitive sequences, combining separate elements to form a cohesive group. It isn’t a strict conceptual idea of repetition on itself; my work doesn’t seek to impose an order or structure, but rather to enjoy the rhythm of repetition. Silk and paper have the softness and malleability that I need in order to create my desired forms, shapes and even shadows. The process to carry out my work is thorough and methodical. I choose as materials small and simple elements; such as feathers made out of paper and silk and then organized in a precise order. This allows me to build a group of entities that end up being the final artwork. My goal is to create projects that inspire, connect and touch people emotionally, taking the viewer on a journey through different ethereal, botanical and peaceful landscapes. I was Born in Santiago, Chile in 1973. I grew up surrounded by Chilean...

Textile Painting of flowers: 'Rags I'
By Joel Handorff
Located in New York, NY
‘Starting with a drawing of "real" flowers, I create layers of thinly veiled surfaces. They become abstracted through the process of multiple printings. The essence of flowers becomes the subject—they bring to mind all of the flowers I have ever seen and all the ones I have seen in great works of art. They are a reflection, a kind of magic mirror, defying traditional paintings of flowers...
