About the Item
Artist Comments
I have always been fascinated by images from the past that exist today divorced from their original intent or context. Clearly, someone believed the image was important enough to record in some way, but why? By reproducing them in a different medium, and sometimes adding suggestive titles, I hope to provoke the viewer's curiosity of the image's origin as well as encourage them to invent their own narrative of the image's purpose.
About the Artist
Mark sources his inspiration from old family photographs, found images, or pictures he shoots himself. He arranges the selected elements, sometimes with a bit of embellishment, in an attempt to create a narrative that is relatable to the viewer. Mark aims to establish a dialogue based on common experiences, fears, ideas, and memories. “It should remind you of something,” the artist says of his paintings. Viewers of different ages and demographics can all identify with the feelings of nostalgia evoked by Mark’s work.
