About the Item

Oil on canvas Marta Uszakow is a Polish artist born in 1995 who lives and works in Sosnowiec, Poland. She was enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice in 2017. Five years later, she completed a main degree in painting and an additional degree in sculpture, under the shared title “Is this really happening, or is it only in my head?” This included a series of paintings, a concrete sculpture, and ceramic forms. The focus of her work at the time was to reflect on the surrounding reality from psychological, scientific, and philosophical perspectives. In her artistic practice, she mainly focuses on paintings, drawings, and sculptures, including ceramic sculptures. She loves to express herself through art, as she believes that it is the most complete form of expression, incomparable to anything else. Art offers freedom and authenticity; through paintings and other visual forms, she shares her emotions and thoughts about the world we live in. Currently, she draws inspirations from folk traditions and both Japanese and Slavic mythology, exploring the similarities between them. This is a deeply fascinating topic for her, as beliefs and myths are an inseparable part of human history. They reveal truths not only about how people once lived, but also about how they thought and described their reality.
