About the Item
"Martí Bofarull’s work fits in with renovation of the urban landscape that has characterized Catalan painting of the last twenty years. Among our artists who have remained loyal to figurative techniques, several have successfully fixed their gaze on the architecture, the streets and the commercial trappings of the modern city….
New York is the culmination of cities of our time and Martí Bofarull has returned to it time and again in recent years. There is a cyclopean and overwhelming New York, and another one made of somber buildings and opaque bridges. There is a New York made cold bluish we can perceive from high in the air, and a gaudy and variegated New York that vibrates around Times Square. Thus the painter meets challenges without end, and the viewer who has followed Marti Bofarull’s work hopes he will keep finding new corners of the city, new angles, new details."

- Tectonic Light - 21st Century, Contemporary, Figurative, Spray Paint, OilBy Scott NaismithLocated in Barcelona, Catalonia"My recent work now becomes more involved with cloud cover and its effect on light and colour through both its translucent and opaque properties. Clouds are visible masses of water droplets or frozen ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere. They have the ability to refract and reflect, creating an ever changing perception of light which inspires my use of colour. I am constantly referring to the paradox of a cloud’s perceived weight and its fragility and the relationship between the cool and warm colours created by it. I have become increasingly interested in catching the moment when heavy overcast clears to reveal clear blue sky, a cool colour that complements the warmth it brings. While the most obvious manifestation of light refraction at this time would occur in the form of a rainbow, I will be concerned with accentuating the infinite, more subtle effects. I find myself inspired increasingly by the works of Turner, who created ephemeral atmospheric effects using large washes of liquid paint. Other influences include Henry Matisse, Francis Cadell...Category
