Stunning oil on canvas, scene of two young courting lovers in an extensive landscape. A French painter from the middle to late 19th century. Dastugue was a portrait and genre painter. He often painted scenes with a story behind the composition, such as this piece. The young girl is pinning a piece of cloth to her dress that the young boy has given her in an act of affection. The artist also painted throughout the middle east, often painting scenes of everyday life in Northern Africa. This piece is currently unframed.

    The was cleaned and re-lined to strengthen the canvas on the stretcher as it was loose on its stretcher. Any overpaint was removed which included clogs that have been painted over the feet of the two figures! The painting has no inpainting.
