Questo imponente dipinto, di alto potenziale decorativo grazie alle sue dimensioni importanti, è stato dipinto con grande maestria dal pittore belga Médard Tytgat. I suoi colori delicati, la dolcezza della scena, lo rendono adatto ad ogni tipo di ambiente. Il dipinto ha la sua cornice originale in legno dorato.
Médard Tytgat (8 febbraio 1871 – 11 gennaio 1948) è stato un pittore, litografo, illustratore di libri e cartellonista belga, noto per i suoi ritratti, nudi e paesaggi. Nato a Bruges, figlio dell'incisore Maximiliaan Tytgat, si trasferì a Bruxelles in giovane età. Dal 1890 al 1894 studiò presso l'Accademia reale di belle arti di Bruxelles sotto la direzione di Jean-François Portaels.
Tytgat era un artista versatile che lavorava nei settori della pittura, della litografia e dell'illustrazione. Ha disegnato poster e copertine di libri ed è stato co-fondatore dell'associazione artistica Labeur. Le sue opere sono esposte in vari luoghi pubblici, tra cui il Municipio di Bruxelles. Nel 1924 partecipò ai concorsi d'arte durante le Olimpiadi estive.
Anche il fratello minore, Edgard Tytgat (1879-1957), fu un rinomato pittore e grafico. Médard Tytgat morì a Bruxelles nel 1948.
