About the Item
The average African Child is usually faced with uncertainty and struggles relating to his future, with only a handful going on to attain higher learning at a serious cost with a so-called "sustainable future" insight and a "passionate dream" in the gutters. In dealing with the excess pressures that come with choices that could make or break him/her as well as the pressure from parents, teachers, and society also, he/she employs a streetwise mechanism to help ease these pressures and maximize concentration, desire and drive to achieve his goal in the face of many distractions.
I've always thought of Art as a reflection of oneself and a story. By using colors to capture and portray the fight and events of this African school child's daily life, I reminisce on my own difficult choices, battles, moments of uncertainty, courage, and triumph with a hint of nostalgia and hope for better times to come.
