About the Item

This signed painting by Michael Grimsdale captures the energy and elegance of the sport in a bold and dynamic style, emphasizing the action of the polo match, with players galloping on horseback at full speed, their movements fluid and powerful. The horses, full of vitality and muscle, contrast against the sky bathed in soft sunlight. The result is a painting that blends both the sport's high-class elegance and raw athleticism, encapsulating a moment of passion and intensity in the world of polo. Michael Grimsdale was born in London in 1936. He was brought up in an Army family in Hong Kong, Singapore and South Africa. He was educated at Cheltenham College, RMA Sandhurst and St. Martins School of Art, London. He lived in Mexico for two years and Australia for four years. His paintings are in private collections worldwide. He paints mostly commissioned portraits, sports, landscapes and copies of famous paintings. He has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition; London; Cowdray Park Polo Club; Equus, Newmarket; Tanjah Flandria, Tangiers and Marrakesh; Arden Gallery, Sydney, Somoza Sims Gallery, Houston, USA, and Napier Gallery, Jersey. He has paintings on permanent exhibition in the World Trade Club, Dubai. Holocaust Museum, Chicago, the Museum of Music, Taiwan and Apothecaries Hall, London. He also has paintings in the collection of Harlequins FC, Bath Rugby Club and Gleneagles. He has illustrated books for Octopus and Mitchell Beasley among others. Drawings have appeared in Readers Digest and Aramco World magazine as well as advertising campaigns for J. Walter Thompson and Saatchi & Saatchi.
