Born in 1904 in Udine, Italy, Verani overcame modest beginnings to study at a formal painting school, eventually exhibiting in Italian National Salons as well as collective exhibitions across Europe and Latin America. He travelled widely, gaining artistic inspiration from Germany, Austria, and France, before ultimately settling in Naples. There, he developed a lasting affection for urban subjects, often depicting romantic cityscapes and tranquil street scenes.
In this canvas, Verani employs a fluid, impressionistic technique that nods to earlier French masters while embracing the colour and compositional ease of postwar European painting.
