Exquisite, early original oil on canvas painting of a harlequin by the well known artist, Charles Levier. Titled verso “L’Babit Blanc” or the “The White Robe” and signed verso. Signed lower left on the front of painting as well. Circa 1955. Condition is excellent; recently professionally cleaned. No apparent restorations. Framed in a reproduction of the period wood frame. Overall framed dimensions are 38 by 32 inches. Provenance: A Greenwich Village, New York collector. Charles Levier. 1920-2003 – Artist Charles Levier, aka Maurice Verrier, was born in 1920 of a French father and an American mother in Corsica. He held a fascination with color and form that led him, at age seventeen, to the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs for private studies.
