About the Item
This contemporary expressive piece, "Sweet Summer Red Cherries from the Garden," by French artist Natalya Mougenot, is part of her “Still-Life” series. Through this work, Mougenot explores the simple pleasures of life, specifically the beauty of fresh summer cherries from the south of France, a region known for its bountiful fruits and sunny warmth.
In this artwork, she uses bold and vibrant colors to capture the essence of these cherries, bringing them to life with a sense of freshness and sunlight. Mougenot embraces a contemporary style with a touch of brut art and expressionism, offering a unique perspective on the still life genre. The piece reflects her spontaneous approach to painting—working without a set plan to allow emotions and energy to flow freely onto the canvas. For the artist, completing the painting in one sitting is crucial, as it allows her to infuse it with raw energy and emotion, creating something that cannot be replicated once finished.
The bright, intense colors used in the piece are a deliberate choice, reflecting Mougenot’s current mood and mindset. These vivid tones symbolize strong emotions and high energy, capturing the vitality of summer and the joy of experiencing life’s simple moments. She hopes the painting will have a positive visual impact on her viewers, radiating a sense of spontaneity, dynamic movement, and vibrant life.
Executed in an impressionist style with a modern touch of brut art, this work is a bold, eclectic mix of color and form. Mougenot’s expressive brushstrokes bring the cherries to life, imbuing the piece with an energetic rhythm as she concentrated on the movement and mood of her hands while creating it.
The painting is created with oil paints on a stretched cotton canvas and has been varnished to protect it from fading. It is sold unframed and is ready to hang upon arrival. You are welcome to frame it according to your taste and space, with interior photos included for inspiration.
As a one-of-a-kind original painting, "Sweet Summer Red Cherries from the Garden" is signed on the front and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. The artwork will be carefully packed with layers of bubble wrap and shipped to you securely.
Please note that colors may vary slightly between the actual painting and the image on your screen due to differences in digital camera results and monitor settings.

Natalya is a contemporary artist from Lyon, France. She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes and low mountains. She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country. She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis when she was struggling with radical life changes. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now. Several years ago painting became more than a hobby. It became a way of expressing her emotions and visions, a successive reaction to events of either personal or general concern. Her artist statement: “ I paint as it’s a necessity for my soul to express itself. Being creative for me is overcoming the restrictions. My art is a piece of my soul. I hope my art inspires reflection, provides a release and forms connection at other people’s souls”. She has developed her own vision of art through practicing a lot. She makes use of varying degrees of figuration, abstraction and impressionism by adding a contemporary twist. Abstract art for her is an interesting challenge for understanding inner feelings, a self-expression based on an intuitive approach. In figurative art her main subject remains women. Her artworks representing women contain the raw emotions of women. She also communicates the importance and the power of strong female relationships: “Women are enriched when they bond with each other”. She works in series: among them are "Heart-mind connection" of abstract artworks, "Women", "Bond", "Florals", "Springtime"... She uses various mediums ( acrylic, oil, watercolor, oil pastels) to create her unique artworks either on canvas or on paper. But she mainly uses acrylic as she works very quickly and expressively by finishing her artwork in one sitting. If Natalya had to pick one quote about her art, she would say : " Art is the reflection of the soul". Natalya goes with her gut and intuition to choose the colors, the lines, the shapes and the texture. She hopes her artworks will give a home a unique personality by filling it with life and color. Her sources of inspirations are Claude Monet, Paul Cezanne, Henri Matisse, George-Daniel de Monfreid, Paul Gauguin. She also admires the artworks of Joan Mitchell and Banksy.

Maria Tort Xirau ( Figueres , 26 May 1924 – 6 June 2018) was a painter and photographic and cinematographic editor from Emporda. She developed a long professional career in leading photographic studios, in films for The Walt Disney Company and also in advertising claims for companies such as Educa Borràs . The second half of her life was dedicated to painting, exercising a luminous, varied and nostalgic chromatic style in the techniques of oil and watercolor and with exhibitions of her work in Barcelona and Figueres. The Biographical Dictionary of Art Empordà defined Tort Xirau's work as "a painting that is characterized by the strength of the strokes, the vividness and brightness of the chromatic range and exudes mastery of the photographic technique. A mixture of nostalgia and tenderness is evident.".
Tort Xirau's paintings were exhibited in the two towns where she spent her life: in 1992 she exhibited his work at the Caixa de Figueres Exhibition Hall. Two years later, she did it at Sala Conex in Barcelona and in 2007 and 2013 the Consortium of Sant Ferran Castle and the Figueres Town Council organized tribute exhibitions. In 2013, she ceded to the council of the city of Figueres her work Mercat de la plaça de l'Ajuntament , watercolored on paper around 1991, which is exhibited in the rest room of the building.
On June 6, 2018, she died in Figueres at the age of 94, receiving the apostolic blessing . Two years after her death, part of her paintings were included in the exhibition Paint, create, live. Women artists in the Alt...
