About the Item
This beautiful, moving and realistic portrait by Toronto based artist Nazy Sakhavarz is characteristic of her work. She often paints on a large scale and her preferred colour palette is subdued. This oil painting is predominantly rendered in white, black and brown—the woman’s face is rosy, her long brown hair is tousled, her eyes cast downwards as if in contemplation—one hand grasping the only real pop of bright colour—a red and yellow apple.
Sakhavarz graduated from Queen’s University in 1995 as a painting major. Throughout her career, she has taught many children and adult courses in life drawing, illustration, cartoons and painting. While pursuing her own artistic journey, she is currently the head of visual arts at a secondary school in Toronto. Her work is held in numerous private and public collections.
