About the Item

Unique 2022 Oil painting on cotton glove (12 x 21cm) Framed in black wood 43 x 53 cm The worker’s glove is a realistic and existential object on which Polat Tayir paints workers and footballers. A creation that recalls the hand of the worker and his work on the construction sites. Splendid stadiums that are the result of countless hours of work provided by the workers. Polat’s brush is expressed on a simple cotton glove, not on a glamorous canvas. The lives of countless anonymous workers that no one will remember are depicted on these small cotton gloves. Al- though these gloves are not as flashy as the splendid stadium in Qatar, they refer to the many hands that shaped it. An artistic expression of the daily life of unknown workers. Extract of the text by Jungmin Choi Curator PHD Visual arts, Université Paris I, Sorbonne Polat Tayir was born in 1977 in Xinjiang, (China) Lives and works in Paris (France) His work explores the idea of the integration of an individual in society and seeks a relationship between him and things, between his body and the landscape. His approach combines painting and photography: originally a simple painting on a cliché, the artist covers his hand with paint, on the spot; a performance that he immortalizes in the moment by a photograph. From 2006, he undertook a series of photographs of his painted hand, as an extension or detour of the landscape. His hand is the central element, representing himself and his being, telling his story. The lines of his hand are in the landscape, merging and confronting it, like the slow process of integration of an individual into a new culture. In his latest series, Fulati integrates a glove, a tangible trace of the performance but above all a substitute for his body.
