About Artist
Prince Obasi (b. 1980's) is a figurative painter based in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Educated at the prestigious Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos State, Obasi obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Fine Art with a major in painting in 2009.
Embarking on his artistic journey, Obasi taught visual art in several colleges before transitioning into full-time studio practice in 2019. Based in Port Harcourt, his studio is also known as OBASISM STUDIO. He is also a member of 'The Society of Nigeria Artists,' Rivers Chapter (SNA).
He is a prolific painter, with an unfathomable bond with acrylic and charcoal as a medium to illuminate his artistic language of contemporary figurative art, with a self-discovery alteration of the human eyes. He is famous for the square eyes and pupils of his figures, which in a joyful and quirky way invite the viewer to take a closer look at the canvas. The immaculate details embedded in the dress and painted environments of his characters, make his canvases a unique vessel for representation of human character. Prince has participated in some solos and group shows including; 2021 'EUPHORIA (An Artist Reflection in Color),' Thought Pyramid Art Center, Abuja, 2021 'Golden Square,' Signature Gallery, Lagos State, 2022 'BAD POSTURE,' Eclectica Gallery, Cape Town, South Africa, 2020 Sogal African Contemporary Auction, Signature Gallery, Lagos State, 2020 'OREZE VII (The King's Crowd), Onitsha, Anambra State, 2019 New Frames Art Exhibition (SNA), Presidential Hotel, GRA, Port Harcourt, 2019 Private Art Exhibition, Gallery 44, Ikoyi. Impresser
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
"Impresser" is an intriguing artwork that captures the essence of competition, skill, and the desire to impress. This piece of art depicts a man playing snooker with exceptional skill, in the presence of a lady who is watching him intently. The artwork showcases the man's confidence and mastery of the game, as he strives to impress the on-looking lady with his abilities. This work is inspired by the rate of ability Men display to impress a lady they've fallen for. Moses Ndubuzo came to the realization that Men (who don't know much about women) do things with style and often incredible things when a crush is around the corner, just like showing off, but this time it's natural.
The man in the artwork is shown in a moment of intense focus, as he lines up his shot on the snooker table. His body language exudes confidence and skill, and his expression suggests that he is fully immersed in the game. The lady, on the other hand, is shown standing at a distance, watching the man with a curious and fascinated expression. She is dressed in elegant attire, which adds to the ambiance of the scene, and her presence seems to be the focal point of the man's efforts.
This creates a sense of visual interest and draws the viewer's attention toward the lady, who is the center of the man's attention. The lighting in the artwork is also skillfully done, with the snooker table being illuminated, creating a sense of focus on the game.
The artwork's title, "Impresser," is aptly chosen, as it encapsulates the man's desire to impress the lady. This desire is a common human trait, as people often seek to impress others with their skills, talents, and abilities. The man's mastery of the game of snooker is a testament to his dedication and hard work, and his desire to impress the lady reflects the universal desire to be recognized and appreciated for one's achievements.
Overall, "Impresser" is a captivating artwork that speaks to the human experience of competition, skill, and the desire to impress. Its use of colors, lighting, and symbolism creates a sense of visual interest and draws the viewer into the scene. This artwork is a testament to the power of art to capture human emotions and experiences, and its ability to connect people across time and space. Whether one is a snooker player or not, "Impresser" is an artwork that is worth experiencing.

This artwork is a testament to the power of art to convey complex emotions and experiences, and its ability to connect people across time and space. "Idiot Wind, Sweet Reason", acrylic painting, duality, politics, humanity
Located in Toronto, Ontario
"Idiot Wind, Sweet Reason" is an acrylic painting on canvas measuring 24" high by 36" wide. Again cutting to the quick, Dale Williams posits our best and worst instincts as a duality, and that duality as a confrontation. There's nowhere to hide in any of William's paintings, that's part of the charge coming off his canvases. That's particularly true with this painting – as hideous as these personnages may be in Idiot Wind and Sweet Reason, we recognize their struggle for grace.
Press Release 2018: "Williams acknowledges a large range of influences on his vision: the moral lessons embodied in the works of 17th century engraver Jacques Lagniet, the darkling phantasms and tragic reportage of Goya’s Caprichos and Disasters of War, and the personal mythologizing of the late paintings of Philip Guston. Such works echo throughout Williams social surrealist re-visioning." – George Del Barrio, Vanderbilt Republic, Brooklyn NY
Dale Williams has exhibited in the New York City area for the past 25 years. He is a 2014 recipient of a Fellowship in Printmaking/Drawing/Book Arts from the New York Foundation for the Arts. His most recent one-person show, “America Now Suite,” which re-visioned American history in service of the civic imagination, was held at Gowanus Loft, Brooklyn in October 2018. A selection of portraits from “America Now Suite” was included in the BRIC Biennial, Winter/Spring 2019. His portrait of Osip Mandelstam...
