Ramon Llovet Miserol
Ramon Llovet Miserol was a painter who cultivated other disciplines such as engraving and sculpture. He was born in Barcelona in a humble working family. From an early age, Miserol began to draw and paint. Later, he attended classes in Llotja and the Athenaeum Worker. In 1938, Miserol participated as a soldier in the Civil War and returned from the front with the injury to the heart that suffered from aggravated birth. In 1939, Miserol made his first exhibition at the Costa Galleries in Barcelona, where he made two more exhibitions. He participated in the fall classrooms (October Hall) of the 40s and 50s. Miserol became a member of the FAD and participated actively in all kinds of debates and discussions on artistic subjects. In 1948, he broke with the previous period and painted a short series of expressionist-cubist works. Of restless and investigative temperament, his work evolved constantly. Thus, starting in 1950, there was a new change in the conception of his work, now social, dramatic issues predominated, within lyrical expressionism. Miserol exhibited these works in the Argos Hall, between 1951–56. From here, his work was valued and recognized by critics, collectors, etc. He received different awards and made the first exhibitions outside the country. The 1957–58 season, became part of the group of painters of the Sala Gaspar, until the 80s. From 1955, his work began a slow evolution towards greater lyricism, without forgetting irony or criticism. In 1967, Miserol began to be interested in the thought and work of the pacifist Lanza del Vasto, which influenced his way of thinking, his life and his work. He was also deeply interested in the philosophical work of the thinker Krishnamurti and theosophy. From here, the poetic and spiritual content of his work was accentuated until it ended in the mid-70s and until his last works in an almost metaphysical representation of reality.
