Rineke Engwerda is a young artist who likes to let you think about what you see and how you see it.
She likes to modern world with all diversity of communication and language.
In this painting she uses manga style, hyperrealistic painting and drawing at the same time. She also makes her works on two board of 100 x 100 cm, different subjects at each board, the woman in front is to be seen on the two boards.. .
Rineke Engwerda has also developed a very versatile oeuvre. She also became known through 'Stars on the canvas'. Rineke is a fine painter, very realistic she gives what she wants to show. Striking for example are her paintings that are all about backs. The backs of lorries do. You know them, in traffic jams, you do not see anything, just the back for you ...
But she also noticed an exhibition with other backs, the backs of her facebook friends. Invited by her, they sent her photos of their back, buttocks, exposed or in underwear. Rineke processed this into a large series of small paintings. And now also two enormous paintings of a few square meters in size. People, completely or only a part of them, animals, but antique and fast cars. In everything, there is also a 'crazy thing' going on. Suddenly a screen view of a computer in the image, a slice or cartoon character, which makes the whole realistic scene very alienating. In short, an artist with a unique style, even without a signature you recognize the work of Rineke.
In this exhibition she shows her special work that we saw when we visited her in her studio in Hengelo this summer. In an old school, near the Fanny Blankers Koen stadium, she makes her special work. In her studio Rineke cheerfully tells about how the images come to her. Her training was not successful at first, after a switch to another Academy she developed into an artist with her own style and her own, humorous view of reality. In her studio, eyes, buttocks of her facebook friends, backs of trucks, hyper-realistic portraits of painted and countless cars with countless quips on the canvas look at you. We expect, with pride and curiosity, to show a lot of her versatility!

Rineke Engwerda
Rineke Engwerda was born in Delden in 1974. She is a contemporary Dutch painter with a unique style. Engwerda was educated at the ArtEZ Academy for Art & Design in Kampen and graduated in 1998 from the AKI in Enschede. Even without a signature, you can immediately recognize the work of Engwerda. She works at an old school, near the Fanny Blankers Koen stadium. Her training was not successful at first, since realism was forbidden at the academy. After a switch to another Academy, Engwerda developed into an artist with her style and her own, humorous view of reality. In her studio, eyes, buttocks of her Facebook friends, backs of trucks, hyperrealistic portraits of painted and numerous cars with countless quips on the canvas is displayed.
