About the Item

Medium: Oil on Canvas Signature: Signed Lower Left One of seven paintings in the Great Moments in U.S. Olympic History collection, Howe's artwork shows that achieving greatness begins with a dream. Here, a young boy dreams of running with the U.S. Olympic Track Team. To help raise funds for the 1976 U.S. Olympic Team competing in Montreal, Calada, Sears, Roebuck and Co., in cooperation with the U.S. Olympic Committee, commissioned five American artists through The Saturday Evening Post to illustrate posters recreating memorable scenes from our Olympic heritage.

Joel D. Sager (b. 1980) is a contemporary American painter of landscapes, still-life and portraiture. Often drawing on such standard subject matter with economy and singularity— a solitary figure in a room or misplaced sock on a bed— the conceptual element of his work becomes a contemplation on meaning for even the simplest objects: person, place, or thing. Sager's process often involves a distinctive mixture of media, incorporating tar with oil pigments, or wallpaper with squid ink...
