"The mother church, the village and the alley, distinctive features of the Italian provincial villages. This is a glimpse of Nova Siri center, a small reality in the province of Matera and my father's birthplace. This visual and cultural cross-section is emblematic of the landscape and architectural beauty of provincial Italy, that of our grandparents and our roots. The vision of my origins is recurrent in the periods spent away from home. It was 2017, I had been living in Trieste for almost a year and I was preparing for a personal exhibition on the seafront of my city". Sabrina Pugliese BIOGRAPHY Sabrina Pugliese was born on April 2nd, 1990 in a small village in the Southern Italy, Nova Siri. Since she was a child, she was interested in arts in their different forms: singing, playing piano and visual arts. She graduated in Modern Literature at the University of Urbino, in the heart of the Italian Renaissance, the birthplace of Raffaello Sanzio. She didn’t have the chance to attend artistic high school because it was too far from home. So, after the graduation, she began to devote herself to her passions: painting, exclusively oil on canvas. She has started painting as a self-trained painter to promote and improve her territory, Basilicata, also named Lucania. Nowadays, she expanded her project because she wants to spread Mediterranean holidays’ colours, sounds and perfumes, with the image of the sea, all over the world. She knows that painting can give voice to landscapes of the soul through seascapes. She lived for ten years away from home to study and work and, in this way, she created a stronger relationship with her origins. During the pandemic, she has decided to return to Basilicata to offer her small contribution to the Southern of Italy. She has participated in several national and international exhibitions including: • Collective exhibition with two painters: Giulio Orioli e Nino Oriolo for “Night of the brigands” 2019, in Nova Siri Centre (MT) thank to collaboration of Maria De Lorenzo, art historian, August 12th, 2019. • Selected for Pitturiamo Prize in New York, exhibition in White Space Chelsea (October 2020 but postponed event). Publication on Art Now magazine, December 2019. • Selected for “Annuario of Artistis 2020” published by Mondadori. • Participation to “Art Leader” project of Angelo Crespi, art market expert. • Selected and published by Loreta Larkina, gallery owner of “Art studio” in Venice for video- exhibition in San Pietersburg, April 2021. • Selected for Barcelona Contemporary art Fair 2021 (3-20 june) organized by Itsliquid Group.

The Conversation II

Signed lower left Elizabeth Higgins (Canadian, b. 1960) Elizabeth Higgins describes herself as an abstract figurative and landscape painter. Everything around her serves as a potential subject, an inspiration to begin a painting. Fidelity to the landscape, the figure, or the still life is relative, as she isn’t interested in literal depictions; instead, it’s the abstract relationships of these shapes and colors, the abstract pictorial design that drives her work. Higgins’ paintings are rooted in the tradition stemming from Courbet, Derain, Bonnard, Matisse, Morandi, German Expressionism, and the Canadian Group of Seven (also known as the Algonquin School of landscape painters, 1920–1933). She is influenced by the work of her artist-teachers Paul Resika—himself a student of Hans Hofmann—and Robert De Niro, Sr. (1922-1993), as well as the paintings of contemporary artist Peter Doig. Her artistic evolution stretches across this continuum. It is the “in-between”, the hovering between representation and abstraction, that interests her, not the labeling effect of details; instead, she aims directly at the spirit of the painting—of making something come to life. John Goodrich wrote in her catalog essay, “Elizabeth Higgins’ direct brushwork and simplified forms suggest an energy, but crucially, reveal a painter who knows the power of color…” Elizabeth Higgins was born in Toronto, Canada, in 1960. As a Helena...
