About the Item

As kids, many of us couldn’t wait to grow up. We had big dreams and thought adulthood meant freedom and fun. But no one warned us about the stress, the pressure, or how heavy life can feel. Now, with bills to pay, friendships that are harder to trust, and responsibilities that pile up, I often find myself missing those simpler times. Back then, everything felt easier. We didn’t know what it meant to feel lost, drained, or emotionally stuck. There was no pressure to figure everything out. Just being was enough. That’s what this painting, “Innocence,” is about. I wanted to capture that moment before the world gets complicated, when a child can look up with wonder and curiosity, without worry or fear. The butterflies, the leaves, the calmness around her, they all represent that untouched part of life we often forget. Childhood may be short, but the feeling it gives us, the sense of safety, freedom, and peace, stays with us. Sometimes, I just want to go back. Not to escape, but to remember what it felt like to be free from all of this. Shipping Procedure Ships in a well-protected tube from Nigeria This work is unique, not a print or other type of copy. Innocence and Patience
By Carole Garland
Located in Palm Desert, CA
These two South African schoolgirls were staring at yet another group of well meaning tourists passing through their Zimbabwean grammar school. Carole Garland captures their lingering expressions: Innocence, seemingly open, adventurous and hopeful while the other girl, Patience, is perhaps more skeptical, wondering what these people from the United States are doing in her classroom. To enter their children in school. South African parents must register them with English names so mother and father, who don’t speak English, search through English language newspapers for suitable names, hence, “Innocence” and “Patience.” The tour guide’s name was “Sanction.” Carole Garland graduated from Knox College, Galesburg, Ill., and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of the Americas in Mexico City. Carole Garland has shown in many Southern California venues, most recently at TAG Gallery, Bergamot Station; RealART Gallery, Agoura Hills; the Santa Paula...
