About the Item
In this painting, I've captured the tender and serene alliance between a circus girl and her magnificent horse. Working in oils, I employed a blend of impressionism and realism to breathe life into the vibrant textiles and gentle expressions, crafting a scene of quiet understanding amid the lively circus milieu. The artwork evokes a sense of companionship and trust, symbolizing deep bonds formed in the most dynamic environments. This piece invites warmth and soulful energy into any space, celebrating the beauty of connection.

Serghei Ghetiu was born on January 1, 1976, in the small town of Soroca in Moldova. From an early age he was fascinated by modelling clay and drawing. His very first exhibition took place already in the nursery, later in the city house of culture. Drawing and painting fascinated him so that he had no doubts that he would study further. He attended an art school that he successfully graduated in 1991. Since the College of Fine Arts was in the capital Chisinau, and he was only 15 years old, he stayed at home. In the same year there was a misfortune, his father died, which also affected the family budget. Thoughts about going to college, living and studying in the expensive capital had to be left until better times. He went to serve in the army. From the first month of military service, he was noticed as an artist, since he made a couple of drawings for his colleagues. He was called to headquarters and became a regimental artist. There were a lot of orders and he was very popular in his military unit. After the service, he was offered a permanent job in the capital as a graphic designer, but he refused because he decided that this would greatly limit his freedom and plans for the future. At the age of 21, he decided to enter the College of Fine Arts „Alexandru Plămădeală” in Chisinau, Moldova. And successfully passed the entrance exams. But after half a year he had to quit my studies due to financial difficulties. He decided to work and leave the painting as a hobby. At the age of 26 he entered the University again, but this time not as an artist but as a linguist. For practical reasons and a weak economic situation in Moldova, he decided to go for another specialty, because with computerization, artists have become unclaimed in the market. He was successful in his studies and received a scholarship to study in Germany. There he graduated from the university with a degree in German Philology and Communication. At the same time he, of course, painted and even sold his works. After studying, he moved with his future wife to Lithuania, where he still lives. Literally this move determined his profession as an artist. His solid knowledge of German philology was not needed without knowledge of the Lithuanian language, and painting came to the fore again. Since then he has been working as an artist and he loves this work very much. His paintings are in many countries of the world. He constantly works on his skills, tries and improves. His paintings hang in the galleries of Vilnius and Kaunas. But more of his clients are Americans, he can not even say for sure how many paintings are in the USA and in which states. Every year he is taking part in the art fair Art Revolution Taipei A. R. T. and several times was nominated in the American Art Awards.

Ordinary miracle

"I still remember my memories from childhood, when the horse bowed its velvet muzzle over me. Her huge wet eyes, which you couldn't keep your eyes off, are framed by fluffy long eyelashes. I saw in its eyes another unreal fairy-tale world. Adults said, just stroke her, it asks you. And I thought it wanted to tell me some secret. And I always wanted to learn horse language to understand it. This is what my painting "Ordinary Miracle" is about. The horse still remains a fabulous creature for me. It is like a magical vehicle that can take you to a wonderland and fulfill your innermost desire. It connects me to the world of mystery and magic."

Oil on panel
A fashionable group of merrymakers boards a rowboat at sundown in this oil on panel by renowned French painter Gaston La Touche. Softly lit and lushly detailed, the work represents the artist’s talent for capturing the gaiety of the Belle Époque. With its luminous coloring and feathery brushwork, this oil evokes the style and joie de vivre of the era rendered in La Touche’s distinctive, mature style.
Fresh and airy, the work is a beautiful example of the artist’s skill at capturing the subtle qualities of light and color. Set against the plein air backdrop of a wooded pond awash in the soft glow of the golden hour, the scene reflects the influence of the Impressionists. The subject also recalls works by Manet, Monet and Renoir, who delighted in depictions of modern leisure among the expanding middle class. The scene is an informal one, and its unconventional cropping suggests that the viewer is invited to take a seat in the boat and join the group on their outing. Such relaxed, inviting scenes were remarkably popular among contemporary, modern audiences. However, La Touche's style is singular, possessing an element of fantasy and romance that set him apart from the Impressionists.
Gaston La Touche was born in St. Cloud, outside of Paris, in 1854, and he showed a keen interest in art from a young age. At ten years old, he began taking private art instruction, which lasted until 1870, when his family was forced to flee to Normandy amid the Franco-Prussian War. This was the only formal art training La Touche would ever receive. Despite his lack of Academy training, he made his debut at the Paris Salon of 1875 with a sculptural medallion and etchings, and he exhibited his first painting at the Salon of 1881. Although he began his career painting dark-toned realist compositions, by 1890, his style had shifted to what would become his signature — a lighter, brighter, idealistic society world.
The artist was associated with practically all of the most influential artists and thinkers of late 19th century France, including Édouard Manet, Edgar Degas, Émile Zola, who frequently met at the legendary Cafe de la Nouvelle Athenes to share their thoughts on modern society. In 1900, he was named a Chevalier of the Legion d'Honneur and an Officer in 1909. Additionally, he was well-decorated at the grand...
