About

Moody depiction of a woman on a sunny morning by Shirley Polovy (American, b. 1942). On the left side of the composition, a woman sits in the shadows, with a slight smile. Behind her and to the right is a warmly lit window and a few houseplants. The brushstrokes are large and confident, rendering light and shadow with clarity but details with slight ambiguity. Painting was exhibited at Pacific Grove Art Center. Early years painting at the Sunset Art Center was impressionistic. She began a direction in Abstract Expressionism in the 1980s that continues in her work. Presented in a wood frame. Signed in the lower left corner and on verso. Art size: 16"H x 20"W Shirley Polovy (American, b. 1942) is an artist, instructor, and art coach from Carmel, California. She has taught seminars for pastels, watercolor, and oils since the 1980s. Polovy made her living as an art coach, helping other artists market themselves and make sales.
