In Car Horn Resistance (2022), Soudeh Davoud transforms a simple act of protest into a poignant symbol of defiance. A vibrant bouquet of red gladioli—flowers traditionally associated with strength and remembrance—erupts against a deep purple ground, its beauty interrupted by a trail of crimson echoing sacrifice. Beneath, the image of a broken car horn recalls the spontaneous protests that filled Iran’s streets, where honking became a collective cry against oppression.
Part of Davoud’s Immortal Flowers series, this work intertwines realism and symbolism to honour the resilience of ordinary people turned heroes. Through delicate layers of coloured pencil, Davoud memorialises resistance not as a fleeting act, but as a lasting emblem of unity, courage, and hope.
