In Eternal Navid (2022), Soudeh Davoud commemorates the life and legacy of Navid Afkari, the Iranian wrestler executed in 2020. Against a serene blue backdrop, two wrestlers engage in a poignant struggle, framed by a delicate arrangement of flowers—symbols of remembrance, strength, and sacrifice. Below, a small vignette of a noose evokes the tragic end of a life devoted to courage and resistance.
Executed in coloured pencil, this drawing forms part of Davoud’s Immortal Flowers series, where she intertwines beauty with mourning to memorialise victims of state violence. Through her refined technique and layered symbolism, Davoud transforms collective grief into a powerful testament to human dignity, resilience, and the enduring fight for freedom.
