This is a one of a kind original surrealist figurative encaustic wax painting by San Diego artist, Tiffany Bociek. It's dimensions are 12"x12"x1.25. It is unframed. A certificate of authenticity will follow delivery.
Artist Statement: Sui Generis is Latin for unique or “in a class by itself”. This piece surveys the landscape of our own uniqueness as individuals and as humans; yet for all our individual uniqueness we share similarities to our surrounding world. Sui Generis explores the blurred lines between the individually unique and shared similarities within our everyday experiences.
Bociek creatively explores the connections between control and play; between her conscious and “unconscious” mind. She refers to inward meditation time as “her wanderings” and consequently call these paintings “My Wanderers.” These “wanderers” in each work embody dreams, curiosity, fear, isolation and joy; they are condensations of her imagination.
Her current work focuses on encaustic painting and incorporates various mediums including found imagery from vintage magazines, hand painted images on rice paper, as well as painting and carving directly into the wax on each painting.

There are no trees, buildings, or any recognizable object. In fact, they are heading to unknown. The unknown can be our greatest fear. The fear of not knowing what is ahead of us can be debilitating, this type of fear can pull you back, keep you where you are. This type of fear can say to you: “It’s a scary world out there, better just stay where you are”. Instead of listening to the fear, these children represent the hope that it takes to continue to move forward relentlessly and resiliently.
