About the Item
This important eighteenth-century painting can be attributed to the exquisite production of the Neapolitan school of the first half of the eighteenth century.
Indeed, the splendid workmanship and refined coloring, evidently of the highest level, suggest attribution to a highly talented author working in Naples in the first half of the eighteenth century.
The scene takes place entirely in the foreground,where we see a bare-breasted woman irradiated by the scorching sun and surrounded by seasonal fruits and with her head encircled by a crown of ears of corn,intent on harvesting wheat.
The character is well modeled,the brushstroke is full-bodied and the use of chiaroscuro creates volume and plasticity.The light illuminates the young woman,creating areas of chiaroscuro between the draperies of the robe,on which the use of white color,superimposed on the underlying colors,is also evident,to give greater prominence to the figure.
To his left a child with a joyful face carries a bunch of ears of corn on his shoulders.
