About the Item

This framed "Life History of Buddha" thangka is hand painted on canvas with 24K real gold. Shimmering gold brush strokes on vibrant red color and illustrative work makes it a stunning piece of art. Measurement of art without the frame: 17.5" x 13" A handout on process of making a thangka will be included with the purchase. The thangka painting of the “Life of Buddha” depicts key episodes in the life of Siddhartha Gautama, known as Gautama Buddha. These works of art serve as visual accounts and are often used for meditation, study, and religious devotion within Buddhism practice. This Thangka portrays key stages of the Buddha's life history from birth to attainment of Nirvana. Notable for intricate brushwork and vivid colors complimented by gold adornments, this magnificent work of art captures the very essence of the Buddha's life story. Crafted with conventional tools and materials, it is truly an admirable sight to behold that celebrates the beauty of spiritual devotion. The paintings of the Buddha's life at times portray more of the meaningful events and encounters in his life. 1. The descent from Tushita. 2. Entering the mother’s womb. 3. Taking birth. 4. Leaving his family. 5. Overcoming Mara, 6. Turning the wheel of Dharma. 7. Passing into nirvana or parinirvana. These thangka paintings are not meant to be solely illustrations of the events in the life of the historical Buddha, but they are also seen to be a visual representation of different philosophical aspects of Buddhism, especially the gradual progress towards the achievement of spiritual enlightenment.

Framed Hand Painted Mandala Thangka on Canvas with 24K Gold
Located in TRUMBULL, CT
This framed "Mandala" thangka is hand painted on canvas with 24K real gold. Earthy color tones and touch of gold makes it a stunning piece of artwork. Measurement of art without the frame: 14.25 X 11.25 inches. A handout on process of making a thangka will be included with the purchase. Mandala represents "wholeness" and is also used as an aid in meditation. The term mandala has become a generic way of describing any circular geometric pattern. The word mandala originated from Sanskrit which means “Circle”. Early versions of the Mandala can be found in the Hindu faith where we would see geometric shapes representing deities. Buddhism took this concept one step further and today if you speak to someone in the Buddhist faith they will tell you that these paintings are in essence a 3 dimensional celestial palace with rooms that contains deities. Let’s call this a mind map, a map to help us further our spiritual journey. Our collection will focus almost entirely on Buddhist Mandalas, a Mandala by Buddhist standards will respect certain basic rules of composition and geometric proportion, although each painting you see is unique in its own way, we will try and cover some of these basic iconographic rules. A Mandala almost always consists of two elements, an outer circle combined with a square positioned inside. In most cases these circles or rings create a pure space protected from external impurities and negative forces. The number of these circles can differ from one painting to another. In almost all mandalas the outermost circle will show flames which commonly represents protection and the innermost circle with be lotus petals which is the Buddhist symbol for purity. This imagery is typical of Mandalas and Thangkas in general which is why almost all deities are seated on lotus thrones. The square represents this symbolic palace or mind map, which is mentioned in the previous section. Any Mandala will always contain a principle deity it can be painted or symbolized by a lotus flower in the case of the Kalachakra Mandala...

Unframed Hand Painted Life History of Buddha Thangka on Canvas with 24K Gold
Located in TRUMBULL, CT
Thangka painting dates back to 7th century after Buddhism was spread in the Himalayan region (Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet and Northern India). In Eastern world Thangka is considered to be a part of Abhi-Dharma which means "The Art of Enlightenment". It is a scroll painting on canvas. Over the centuries Thangkas gradually acquired the status of collectible fine art from a purely spiritual art. Due to international museum shows and popularity of Buddhism Thangkas in particular are gaining a place on the art world's radar screen. The beauty and power of these intricate paintings are strong enough to stand up aesthetically for any viewer. The thangka painting of the Life of Buddha narrates the most relevant episodes of the life of Siddhartha known as the “Twelve Great Deeds of Buddha”. Life of Buddha Thangka Paintings are not just a mere illustration of the main episodes of the historical Siddhartha and his progress towards the achievement of spiritual enlightenment. They are considered to be a visual representation of several philosophical aspects of the esoteric Buddhism...
