A striking mid-century modernist painting depicting a woman tending to a group of chickens, rendered in a bold, abstracted style, painted in oil onto canvas.
The woman, centrally positioned and surrounded by five white hens, appears serene and grounded. Each figure is outlined in confident, dark lines, creating a stained-glass effect that gives the work both structure and movement.
Modernist in its ethos, the composition has been simplified into angular planes and faceted blocks of colour, giving the piece a strong graphic quality reminiscent of Cubism.
The palette is subdued yet expressive, with soft lavenders, greys, creams, and muted greens contrasted with accents of sand and purple. Brushstrokes are smooth and deliberate, favouring clarity of shape over expressive texture, in keeping with the modernist aesthetic.
This oil on canvas is housed in a very well-suited wood frame with an inner gilt border. There are some light scuff marks present on the canvas surface of the painting as shown, but it is in good vintage condition overall.
