Original oil on canvas painting of a lavish interior dinner party scene by Venancio Zolla. Signed lower right. Condition is excellent. Bibliography printed label on frame verso. Original gold leaf frame in fine restored condition. Overall framed measurements are 22 by 26 inches. Provenance: From a Ardsley, New York estate.
ZOLLA VENANCIO
Colchester (Great Britain) 1880 - Turin 1961
From the early years of the twentieth century he worked alternately in his studio in London and in Turin; in the Piedmontese capital he also attended the courses of A. Marchisio, P. C. Gilardi and G. Grosso at the Albertina Academy for some time. Author of figure paintings, portraits (My son, Turin, Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna) and landscapes, in the search for delicate atmospheres he looked to English painting of the second half of the 19th century and to Post-Impressionism. He exhibited in Turin (1901, Lost Existences; 1902, The Quiet; 1905, View of the Church of All Saints in Maidstone) and at the exhibitions of the Royal Academy in London.
