Victor FAVIER (Versailles, 1824 – Nice?, After 1889) Portrait of Marie Amarante Guibée, wife Despagne in front of Chartres cathedral Oil on canvas Signed and dated 58 x 41 cm 1849 Victor Favier was born on November 16, 1824 in Versailles, son of Jean-Louis Favier and Rosalie Moheau. His teachers were Horace Vernet and Wachsmuth before he himself became a drawing teacher at the high school in Agen. He sent his works to the Paris Salon from 1848 to 1879, mainly views and portraits as well as to Lyon. He was retired in 1889 after 30 years of service. He then lives in Nice. Marie Amarante Guibée, married Despagne, was born August 10, 1822 in Chartres and died April 30, 1892 in Versailles. Responding to a desire expressed by her husband, Marie Amarante Guibée, widow of Maximilien Despagne, had in fact left her home surrounded by a large piece of land at the Civil Hospital, plus her fortune, and her death, which happened on April 30. 1892 in his domicile had led to the opening of his succession. Mme Despagne, in her will of November 6, 1890, followed by numerous codicils, expressed herself thus: "I ask the hospital administration to give my house the destination that my husband wanted it to have, that is to say an annex of the Hospital, an asylum for the elderly or children, well, what The Hospital will need it most, and this house will be named after my husband.
